Our program focuses on stabilizing the children's health/wellness, establishing a sense of safety/security and building life skills that increase the child's chances for success once they are reunited with their families after leaving our program.
Our staff engages the children to have an active and fun lifestyle while in our program.
Activities include swimming, trips to the beach, Aquarium, parks, community events, museums, fishing and much more.

Full-time Scope of Position The Youth Counselor - Direct Care Staff is a part-time entry-level position that provides general care of at-risk adolescent girls and manages the treatment milieu and routine within a home.
Responsibilities The Youth Counselor - Direct Care Staff will guide the children in acquiring life skills by teaching and modeling communication and relationship building skills.
Along with the general objectives of this position, the Youth Counselor - Direct Care Staff will assist child care staff by managing the daily group living and care, implement recreational programs and activities, monitor individual behavior, and maintain program structure and accountability.
These tasks include:
Managing positive interaction and conflict resolution by using positive behavior reinforcements, interventions, or confrontation of negative behaviors, and to record behavioral data.

Providing individualized and appropriate care, encouraging residents to become involved in recreational activities inside and outside of the Home.
Provide and maintain entries in administrative and behavioral logs for example; input to individual treatment plans, documenting incidents, and reports required or requested.
Supervising group recreational activities.
Participating in house groups and therapy sessions.
Performing informal counseling.
Overseeing preparation and delivery of meals.
Providing for transportation for residents.
Overseeing chores and general house cleaning/maintenance Monitoring individual physical programs.
Attend and participate in relief staff meetings.
Participate in training of new Youth Counselors.
Attend and assist with corporate functions and meetings, as requested.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications The responsibility of the Youth Counselor - Direct Care Staff is to provide a safe living environment for the children by operating within the program as designed and directed.
The Lead Youth Counselor must be able to provide consistency and structure in communicating clearly, precisely, and directly, responding to the needs of the children in care.
Must also be able to:
Work within a team approach to treatment Establish and maintain good rapport and credibility with children in our care.
Be a role model.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills required for completing the documentation necessary to maintain accurate records for the children including medication administration.
The demonstrated knowledge of basic communication skills to record daily activity and communicate with house parents, tutors, and administration through the use of computer folders, logs, workday, and e-mail.
Maintain positive communication with families, volunteers, college students, professionals, alumni, employees and visitors and through telephone contact.
Maintain good communication with other staff through written or oral exchange of pertinent information through overlap meetings and the cottage logs.
The demonstrated knowledge of preventative techniques to deescalate out of control behavior, enforces routine and guidelines, assigns appropriate consequences, and reports incidents.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Understanding of normal adolescent development Comfortable interacting with youth in informal setting Consistently maintain required paperwork Ability to develop appropriate boundaries Must demonstrate sensitivity to needs of clients in crisis Must demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences and a commitment to the value of cultural competency.
Additional Requirements:
Experience working with troubled youth in a paid or volunteer setting preferred.
Must display knowledge of adolescent development as well as:
At least 21 years old Active unencumbered motor vehicle operator's license from Florida.
Able to pass initial and random drug screening.
Sound moral character Ability to lift 50 lbs.

At minimum must be flexible to assist with on-call, evening, and weekend shifts as needed.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Possess strong interpersonal skills; Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and work independently; Working Conditions:
Employees are subject to the physical and emotional behavior of the youth.

Physical Requirements:
The job duties require an employee to be absent of any physical limitation which would impair effective performance.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a social service related field, preferred High School Diploma or GED, required Experience working with homeless youth and/or at-risk youth.
Must successfully pass background check.
